Tuulikki Pieitilä (1917–2009) was an acclaimed Finnish graphic artist, an influential professor at Helsinki’s Academy of Fine Arts and a skilled filmmaker. For 45 years she and Tove shared a life together, spending summers on Klovharu and travelling together. The rest of the year they lived and worked in adjacent apartments in Helsinki. Tuulikki Pietilä was the inspiration for the Moomin character Too-ticky.
‘When we woke up, the whole ocean was full of broken ice.’
