Italo Calvino was born in Cuba in 1923. His works include The Baron in the Trees (1959), Invisible Cities (1974), If on a Winter’s Night a Traveller (1981), Mr Palomar (1985), The Road to San Giovanni (1993) and Six Memos for the Next Millennium 1993). He died in 1985.
