Shiva Naipaul

Shiva Naipaul was born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad in 1945. He was educated at Queen’s Royal College and St Mary’s College, Port-of-Spain and read Chinese and Literature at University College, Oxford. In 1983, he was named as one of Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists. His novels included Fireflies, which won the Jock Campbell New Statesman Award and the Winifred Holtby Memorial Prize of the Royal Society of Literature. He died of a heart attack in 1985.
