Sherman Alexie

Sherman Alexie was born into a Spokane/ Coeur d’Alene Indian family in Spokane, Washington, in 1966. He graduated in American Studies from Washington State University. Since 1992 he has published thirteen collections of poetry and eight collections of stories, including The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven (1993) which was shortlisted for the PEN/Hemingway Award for the Best First Book of Fiction and won the Lila Wallace-Reader’s Digest Writers’ Awards. In 1996 he was named as one of Granta’s Best of Young American Novelists. His novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, won the National Book Award in the Young People’s literature in 2007. He is married and lives in Seattle with his wife and two sons.
