Tim Beckett has been a cook, tree-planter, house-painter, road-sweeper, documentary researcher and now toils as a web programmer. He grew up in Uranium City, SK, in and around Edmonton, Alta, with a late pit stop in West Vancouver, BC, and has spent most of his adult life bouncing between various regions of Canada, the UK, Europe and New York City. He has been published in the Guardian and various magazines. ‘Crossings’ is an excerpt from a forthcoming novel, Uranium City Return.
‘This was the collective trauma of a community discovering, very abruptly, they’d have to uproot their lives.’ Tim Beckett on the ruins of Uranium City.
