Shahrnush Parsipur

Shahrnush Parsipur is an Iranian novelist. After publishing her first novel she protested against the execution of two poets by resigning from her position at Iranian National Televison and Radio. Since then she has been imprisoned four times for her writing by the Shah’s regime and the Islamic Rebulic. Her novels include The Dog and the Long Winter, Touba and the Meaning of Night (a bestseller in Iran in 1989) and Women Without Men. Parsipur fled Iran and now lives in the United States as a political refugee. All of her works are currently banned in Iran.
