Roberto Saviano was born in Naples in 1979. ‘Naples ’04’ is taken from the book Gomorrah, which won the Viareggio Prize when it was published by Mondadori in Italy in 2006, and in 2007 by Macmillan in the UK and by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in the US. Since the book’s publication Saviano has been under police protection.
‘It may seem strange, but the instant before death is marked by a sense of humiliation.’
