Nicholas Mosley (1923-2017) was born in London and educated at Eton and Oxford. He served in Italy during World War II, and published his first novel, Spaces of the Dark, in 1951. During his career, he published more than 20 novels and books of non-fiction. His book Hopeful Monsters won the 1990 Whitbread Book of the Year Award.
