Louis de Bernières

Louis de Bernières was born in 1954. Before starting to write he worked as a cowboy (in Colombia), a mechanic, a landscape gardener, and a groundsman in a mental hospital. He was named as one of Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists in 1993. Since then he has published three more novels: the bestselling Captain Corelli’s Mandolin (which won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize in 1995), Birds Without Wings and A Partisan’s Daughter.
