Kwame Dawes is the author of several collections of poetry including Progeny of Air (1994) and most recently Back of Mount Peace (2010). He is also the author three novels, most recently Bivouac (2010) and several works of criticism and non-fiction including two books on Bob Marley – Natural Mysticism and Lyrical Genius. In 2004 he was awarded the Musgrave Silver Medal for outstanding services by a Jamaican in the Arts. ‘Passport Control’, published in Granta 92, is taken from his 2006 memoir, A Far Cry from Plymouth Rock.
