Claire Messud was educated at Cambridge and Yale. She is the author of The Emperor’s Children, shortlisted for the 2006 Man Booker Prize. Her other works include The Last Life, When the World Was Steady and The Hunters. Her most recent novel is The Woman Upstairs. She has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Radcliffe Fellowship, and the Strauss Living Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
