Caroline Alexander was born in 1956. She has a doctorate in Classics from Columbia University, going on to teach Classics in Malawi during the rule of Hastings Banda. A meditation on this time, ‘Plato Speaks’, appeared in Granta 51. Alexander has also contributed to The New Yorker and National Geographic. She is the author of One Dry Season (1993) and most recently, The War That Killed Achilles (2010).
