Carlos Fuentes was born in Panama City in 1928. A novelist and essayist, his works include Where the Air is Clearer, The Death of Artemio Cruz, A Change of Skin, Terra Nostra, The Hydra Head, The Old Gringo and The Campaign. Between 1975 and 1977, Fuentes was Mexico’s ambassador to France.
