André Brink is the author of many books in both Afrikaans and English, including A Dry White Season, States of Emergency and Looking on Darkness, the first novel in Afrikaans to be banned. ‘Afrikaners and the Future’ (Granta 50) was originally broadcast on Radio 4. His most recent book, a memoir, A Fork in the Road, was published in 2009.
