Jenny Uglow
Jenny Uglow is an author, critic, historical consultant and the editorial director of Chatto & Windus, an imprint of Random House. Her biographies include Elizabeth Gaskell: A Habit of Stories, Hogwarth: A Life and a World, The Lunar Men: The Friends who Made the Future, Nature’s Engraver: A Life of Thomas Bewick and, most recently, A Gambling Man: Charles II and the Restoration. She also edited the Palgrave Macmillan Dictionary of Women and The Vintage Book of Ghosts. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and a holder of an OBE, she is currently the President of the Alliance of Literary Societies.
The Lunar Men: The Friends who Made the Future won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for biography in 2002. Twice, her work has been shortlisted for the Whitbread Prize.
