Magogodi oaMphela Makhene was born in Soweto, South Africa. She is a 2018 MacDowell Colony Fellow and won the Elie Wiesel Foundation Prize in Ethics Essay Contest in 2007. In 2017, she was shortlisted for the Caine Prize for African Writing. Her work has appeared in Ploughshares, the Harvard Review and Guernica. ‘Innards’ is the title story in a forthcoming collection.
