George Stamp
Press Officer
I work across publicity and marketing, providing support to the campaigns team. I manage campaigns, round-up quotes and reviews for Granta titles, and run social media channels, among other responsibilities. Prior to joining Granta, I worked freelance as a runner at the BBC. Outside of work I’m involved in a number of different musical projects which include playing in a band, producing music and recording mixes for podcasts and radio. My favourite book in translation: Loop by Brenda Lozano, translated by Annie McDermott. It’s a concise and beautifully written story of a relationship falling apart, told from the perspective of a character who spends her life in waiting rooms, airports, and other in-between spaces. The writing is incredibly poetic and really sticks with you. A favourite short story: Escape from Spiderhead by George Saunders. Saunders is a favourite of mine generally and I love a lot of his stories, particularly those from Tenth of December and Pastoralia. Spiderhead really leans into the more dystopian side of his writing. It’s a weird, drug-fuelled psychological nightmare set in a prison laboratory. Dark, but great.
