John Sutherland is an academic, journalist and author. He is an Emeritus Professor of Modern English Literature at University College London and author of Is Heathcliff a Murderer?, Can Jane Eyre Be Happy? and Lives of the Novelists: A History of Fiction in 294 Lives. His most recent work is entitled A Little History of Literature (2013).
