Marek Nowakowski (1935–2014) was one of the most prolific post-war authors in Poland. ‘War Reports from Poland’ (Granta 8) was included in The Canary and Other Tales of Marshal Law (1983), a collection of short pieces about Poland. He was the recipient of numerous literary awards, including the Kościelski Award (1968) and the Władysław Reymont Literary Award (2002).
