Iris Murdoch (1919-99), a Dublin-born author and philosopher, won the Booke Prize in 1978 for The Sea, the Sea. She is the author of twenty-six novels. Many hundreds of her letters and books from her Oxford and London libraries have been acquired by the Centre for Iris Murdoch Studies at Kingston University and are held in the Murdoch Archives there.
