Brigid Collins
Brigid Collins is a visual artist, maker, illustrator and part-time lecturer at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, at the University of Dundee. Passionate in her desire to forge relationships between images and poetry, in particular, she creates paintings and assemblages in two and three dimensions, often in collaboration with writers, poets, other artists or makers and also exhibits widely. Her exhibition Threshold Markings, part of the StAnza International Poetry Festival in St. Andrews, in March 2010, showcased her visual responses to the poems of Kathleen Jamie, Seamus Heaney and others and she was invited by The Stirling University to exhibit new work, An Attitude of Mind, made in collaboration with Professor Kathleen Jamie, to mark her inauguration as their Chair of Creative Writing, in October 2010.
Publications include Room to Rhyme (2004) an illustrated volume of a speech given by the poet, Seamus Heaney, a place where thought happens . . . (2006), an Artist’s Book with poet, Larry Butler and jewellery designer, Teena Ramsay and For A’ That (2009) an anthology of contemporary writing, made in response to Robert Burns, with contributions from Janice Galloway, Kirsty Gunn, Bill Manhire and DBC Pierre and others.
