Anchee Min left Red Fire Farm (the subject of her memoir, ‘Red Fire Farm’, from Granta 39) in 1976 when she was selected to act in propaganda films at the Shanghai Film Studios. She emigrated from China in 1984 and now lives in Chicago. ‘Red Fire Farm’ is her first published work.
‘I arrived at Red Fire Farm – along with many other girls in ten large trucks – late one spring afternoon in 1974.’
