Rachael Allen

Poetry Editor, Granta Publications

I read all poetry submissions and manuscripts that come through and am generally responsible for the poetry content. My first book of poems, Kingdomland, was published by Faber & Faber, and I write about poetry for a number of publications, including ArtReview, Tank magazine and Music & Literature. I also host the Faber Poetry podcast and am finishing a PhD in poetry. A favourite short story: ‘Don’t Look Now’ by Daphne du Maurier. It never fails to spook me. My most dog-eared copy of Granta magazine: Granta 85: Hidden Histories. It was the first copy of the magazine I bought from a second-hand bookshop where I was working at the time. It’s where I first read Diana Athill and Anne Enright. I was nineteen, and through this issue became enamoured with the magazine and what it stood for.
