The ‘War Zone’ in Philadelphia is just north of the centre, about a mile and a half from City Hall and across the Street from Temple University. The War Zone takes its name from the fact that most of the people who live in it are armed. Most – grandmothers, children, whole families – are also involved, on some level, in the only business driving the local economy – crack and heroin.
