David Guterson

David Guterson was born in 1956 in Seattle. He attended public schools in Seattle and the city’s University of Washington and then taught for ten years in public high school. He has written non-fiction as well as fiction, including Family Matters: Why Homeschooling Makes Sense (1992). His novel, Snow Falling on Cedars (1994), won the PEN/Faulkner Award. Most recently, he published The other (2008). In 1996 he was selected as one of Granta‘s Best Young American Novelists. He lives on an island in Puget Sound, Washington State, with his wife and four children.
