Breyten Breytenbach’s account of his political imprisonment in South Africa, The True Confessions of an Albino Terrorist (1984) was extracted in Granta 12. Return to Paradise (1994) won South Africa’s Alan Paton Award in 1994. His most recent books are Intimate Stranger (2009) and Notes from the Middle World: Essays (2009).
