Selected in 2003 as one of Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists, Rachel Seiffert has since published a collection of stories, Field Study, and a novel, Afterwards, and appears in Granta’s Britain issue with ‘Hands Across the Water’. Here Seiffert reads from this new piece of fiction and talks to Yuka Igarashi about writing silences, the inescapability of history, the Troubles and learning to love her characters.
