Nelson Algren

Nelson Algren was born in Michigan in 1909. ‘The Lightless Room’, which appears in Granta 108, is taken from Entrapment and Other Writings, a collection of previously unseen work published in 2009 by Seven Stories Press, celebrating the centenary of Algren’s birth. ‘The Lightless Room’ was first performed at the Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago on April 6, 2009, in Nelson Algren Live, with Willen Dafoe in the lead role. Nelson Algren died in 1981.
